Inflammist

An inflammist (in-fluh-mist) is a person who specialises in the art of setting fire to things and making the flames aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Usually, this is achieved by controlling the fire using hidden techniques, or by burning a combination of combustible materials in order to achieve a desired coloured effect. The most common fire colourants used by inflammists are;

Shows

Many inflammisation shows last for up to 1 hour, and consist of non stop 'fireart' techniques. These include coloured flame burning, fire breathing and fire swirling. Many people turn up to these events, and as of yet, there have been no casualties, mainly because safety is the first priority. The first acts are usually involving fire breathers and fire swirlers which lasts around 10 minutes. Then the main event consists of clever pyrotechnics involving coloured flames and fireworks. The most spectacular part of the show is the 'coloured flame ripple'. This is a real eye opener. It involves a number of containers, each containing a different chemical, often placed in a circle, or a squiggly line. The aim is to light one end of the line, and as the fire spreads, each container goes up in flames and burns with a different colour.

Illegal activity

There are only a handful of inflammists who are skilled enough to put on shows and share their talent. Although there are some who are not talented and use their own 'techniques' to wow friends. This can be seen at most 'underground' events, most commonly street racing and 'underground' sports. For example, when cars are having a drag race down a country lane, there are a number of unsafe flammables lit when the winning car passes the finish line. Another racing game played is the 'leaking explosion' whereby a car, with a leaking fuel tank races in a straight line, whilst being followed by a lit petrol trail. Some distance along the run, the petrol meets with already laid down petrol and the flames spread both left and right and these meet up with dustbins full of petroleum, causing a huge explosion. This is highly dangerous and should not be attempted at all!
