Playing career
Tommy was awarded the
Texaco Footballer of the Year in 1983. This award was given during his all-star and all-Ireland winning year in 1983. He collected three all-stars in succession winning his first all-star in 1977. He has won three all-Ireland senior football medals for Dublin. He won his first in 1976 when Dublin beat rivals Kerry by a scoreline of 3-8 to 0-10. His second win was a prolific win over Armagh the following year with a final win that finished on a scoreline of 5-12 to 3-6. His final and most successful season in a Dublin jersey was 1983, the year in which he was awarded an all-star, footballer of the year and a Leinster and All-Ireland title.Personal
He lives in Sutton, on Dublin's Northside, with his wife and daughter. He is a director of McInerney Construction.
