(1988)The Born in the U.S.A. Tour was the supporting concert tour of Bruce Springsteen's massively popular "Born in the U.S.A." album. It was his longest and most successful tour to date. It featured a physically transformed Springsteen. Gone was a very skinny rocker. He was replaced by a muscleman after two years of running and weightlifting. The live performance of the title track, Born In The U.S.A. helped to add to the misinterpration of the song. It would open each concert with a loud call to arms bang against the backdrop of a huge American flag. However, the lyrics are actually about a down and out Vietnam Veteran who suffered difficulties upon his return and questioned the morality of the war. It started in June 1984 and went and Canada. In March 1985 the tour went to Japan and Europe. It then headed back a second leg of the U.S. in which Springsteen and the E Street Band played out to sold out professional football stadiums. The tour finally wound down in October 1985 in Los Angeles.
