Founded in 1968, as Maria Regina Academy, St. Michael's is located in Spokane, Washington, United States. The school is administered by the sedevacantist group, the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen.
History
St. Michael's Academy was founded in 1968 as Maria Regina Academy by Francis Schuckardt, a leader in the Blue Army in northern Idaho as a group of four schools, a high school each for boys and girls and a grade school each for boys and girls.
In September 1978, the boys high school moved to Mount Saint Michael in Spokane, Washington. In 1996 the individual schools within Maria Regina Academy, Holy Angels Elementary School, Immaculata High School for girls and St. Michael's High School for boys, were united into a single school and was renamed Saint Michael's Academy.
Athletics
St. Michael's offers a basketball and softball/baseball program for grades 4-12. The High School athletic program competes in the Panorama 1B League, while the Junior High/Elementary sports program competes in the Spokane Knights of Columbus Parochial School League. All programs are run by dedicated volunteer coaches who strive to teach sportsmanship and cooperation among the athletes. The girls softball program was started in 1996 as a slow-pitch team and was coached by Larry Urann. In 2003, the league switched to fast-pitch. The Junior High girl's softball team won the Knights of Columbus Championship in 2005. The girls basketball program was created in 1997 by William Mashburn.
