Spallaera

A spallaera is a long panel used as a decorative back piece that is mounted on the wall behind a cassone(a wooden chest used for storage and other purposes). It is usually made out of wood and embellished with decorative aspects such as intricate carving, and is guilded as well. It is considered to be rare when a cassone has a spallaera placed behind it for enhancement.
