Kat Meads, a writer of fiction, nonfiction and poetry, was born and raised in eastern
North Carolina . She holds an undergraduate degree in psychology from theUniversity of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and an MFA from theUniversity of North Carolina – Greensboro . She has received an NEA (2003), aCalifornia Artist Fellowship (2002), the "Chelsea" Award for Fiction (1996) and the "New Letters " Award for Essay (1986). Her short plays have been performed inNew York andLos Angeles . Her most recent work is a novel in the form of a mock biography, "The Invented Life of Kitty Duncan Benedict Roberts Duncan" (2006).Works
