IRIS : Image recognition integrated systems is a computer software technology company that provides text recognition and document management solutions. IRIS is headquartered in Louvain-la-Neuve, in Belgium.

IRIS history

I.R.I.S. was created by Pierre De Muelenaere in April 1987 to commercialize the results of his PhD thesis at the Université Catholique de Louvain. The first product of the company Texiris 1.0 was a commercial version of the prototype designed at the University and was a revolutionary OCR system, based on dedicated hardware board and recognition software that could install on an IBM PC.Over the years, the university spin-off has become an international leader in the fields of Intelligent Document Recognition, Document Management and complex large scale IT projects.

I.R.I.S. licenses its various technologies to major companies such as HP, Kodak, Samsung, Adobe,..It distributes a comprehensive range of products in more than 50 countries. It has developed an installed base of more than 900 very large customers.The company is listed on the stock market since 1999. It has been constantly profitable since 1991.In 2007, the revenue of I.R.I.S. Group was 95.062.297€. I.R.I.S. has more than 500 employees based in Louvain-la-Neuve and Brussels (Belgium), Orly (France), Windhof (Luxemburg), Amsterdam and Maastricht (The Netherlands), Aachen (Germany), Delray Beach (USA) and Hong-Kong (China).

* “Oscar for Successful Export”. In 1997, I.R.I.S. receives an “Oscar for Successful Export” from the Ministry of the foreign trade (Belgian Export Award).
* Best Belgian IPO. In 1999, I.R.I.S. receives the « 1999 best Belgian IPO award” after its successful introduction on the stock market.
* Manager of the Year 2001. Pierre De Muelenaere, Chairman and CEO of I.R.I.S. Group is elected "Manager of the Year 2001" by Trends Tendances magazine.
* Gazelle 2002. I.R.I.S. won the « Gazelle 2002 » award on the occasion of the annual symposium « le Goût d’entreprendre » organised by the Wallonian government from Belgium.
* Deloitte Technology Fast 500. In 2001, 2002 and 2003, I.R.I.S. has been listed on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 list, a ranking of the 500 fastest-growing technology companies in Europe.
