Southeast High School is a high school in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that opened in 1950. The school closed in 1990, but was reopened and remodeled in 1994 as a magnet school with an emphasis on four technology programs offered at the school. Being a magnet school, students must fill out an application and be admitted to the school, regardless of which schools' district they reside.

When the school reopened in 1994, the school was still undergoing renovations. Shortly after classes started, a decision was made to choose an alternate site for students until the construction was complete. The students enrolled at Southeast spent their first semester at the school in makeshift classrooms at the Federal Aviation Administration in OKC.

Programs and academics

Among the many successful programs at the school is the Air Force JROTC program, one of the best in the southern states. The school has been ranked as one of the top 100 high schools in the nation. It has very high test scores, compared to other OKC public schools. On May 21st 2008, Southeast successfully graduated 140 students in the Class of 2008, the Class of 2007 only graduated 67 out of 120.

Sports

The mascot for the school is the Spartans and the colors for the school are blue and white. The Spartans' hated rivals are the US Grant Generals. A common quote among Spartan faithful is as follows, "Better Dead Than a General in Red." A battle cannon located on the campus of US Grant High School is often the victim of Spartan Spirit. During the week of the annual Southeast-Grant Football Game, Grant students often find their cannon painted blue and white. Another Spartan rivalry exists with the Capitol Hill Redskins, the third OKC Public school located on the south side. The Spartans recently lost to the Capitol Hill Redskins 20 to 6. This is the school's first loss to the Redskins in twelve years for football.

In 2004, led by Coach Walter Brewer, the men's basketball team won the 5A Basketball State Championship. In 2005, the Spartans repeated as champions in Class 5A. In 2008, with a record of 18-8, the men's basketball team tried to repeat as state champions in Class 4A, but lost to the Bishop McGuiness Fighting Irish 80-63, the Spartans won the runner-up trophy however. Ben Smith was the overall MVP for the game scoring 23 points and having 11 rebounds.

Spartan star Liz Lay was ranked the No. 18 player in women's basketball in the nation, according to [http://www.rivals.com Rivals.com] . In 2008, Lay signed with the University of Washington, where she plans on continuing her basketball career.

Gerald "G.K." McCoy, a Spartan football player, chose the University of Oklahoma over several other schools. McCoy is now seen playing for the Sooners.

Oh Southeast High School

Is the school for me

I know no other place I'd rather be.

It has the styles and smiles of friendliness

No matter where you go you never will forget the time that you

Were proud to be within its sights

And just to wear its colors

Blue and White

Blue and White

And just to be a part--it's sure a treat--it's hard to beat

Ole Southeast High!
