Bruce R. Ough (pronounced "Oh") (born
12 February 1951 ) is aBishop of theUnited Methodist Church , elected in 2000.Birth and Family
Ough was married to Charlene Ann Feldner Henning 14 August 1976. They have three children: Lance, Stuart and Matthew.
Education
Bruce earned the
B.A. degree fromNorth Dakota State University in 1973. HisM.Div. is fromGarrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (1978). He also didgraduate work atNorthwestern University .During his ministry, Rev. Ough completed the Upper Room's two-year
Academy ofSpiritual Formation program, and has served on the leadership team for the Academy.Ordained Ministry
Rev. Ough served as the
Youth Ministry Director of theFaith United Methodist Church ofFargo, North Dakota (1969-72). He was also the Camp Program Director of theNorth Dakota Annual Conference (1975-77), as well as an Intern on theDakotas Episcopal Area Program Staff (1976-77).While in
seminary , Rev. Ough served asAssociate Pastor of theGrace U.M.C. inChicago, Illinois . Following seminary he became the Director of the Conference Council on Ministries of the Dakotas Area (1978-82). He was then appointed the Director of the Oakwood Spiritual Life Center in the NorthIndiana Annual Conference (1982-85). Rev. Ough then moved toIowa where he became the Council Director of the Iowa Annual Conference (1985-92). He was appointed Superintendent of theCedar Rapids District of the Iowa Conference in 1992, serving until 1997. Rev. Ough's last appointment before election to theEpiscopacy was a Pastor of St. Paul's U.M.C. in Cedar Rapids (1997-2000).Rev. Ough also served as an
Adjunct faculty member of theUniversity of Dubuque Theological Seminary (U.D.T.S.).ervice to the Greater Church
Rev. Ough was elected a delegate to General and Jurisdictional Conference of the
U.M. Church , 1988-2000. He served on the North Central Jurisdictional Committee on Episcopacy. He was also a member of the U.D.T.S. Council of Advisors.Episcopal Ministry
The Rev. Bruce R. Ough was elected to the Episcopacy and consecrated a Bishop in July 2000 by the North Central Jurisdictional Conference of the U.M. Church. He had been nominated by the Iowa Annual Conference.
