Kai Puolamäki is a Finnish
physicist andInternet activist . He has been a vocal spokesman of the Finnishanti-copyright movement.Academic career
Puolamäki graduated from the
University of Helsinki in1996 . In2001 he presented hisdoctoral thesis titled "Breaking ofR-parity andsupersymmetry in supersymmetric models". His earlier publications inphysics have included articles on theHiggs boson .Since
2003 his publications have concentrated oninformation technology andpattern recognition . He now works as researcher (equivalent to a North Americanassistant professor ) at theHelsinki University of Technology in the Laboratory of Computer and Information Science (the former laboratory of Professor emeritusTeuvo Kohonen ).Internet activism
Puolamäki is a founder and board member of
Electronic Frontier Finland , the Finnish counterpart to theElectronic Frontier Foundation , and has written many of the groups position papers. He has been a regularexpert witness on copyright issues at theFinnish Parliament .He has coined the term "
copyright commandeering " to refer to instances of misuse of claims of exclusive rights under copyright.In2006 he started the "Anti-Commandeering Investigation, Training and Resources" centre modeled onAnti-Piracy Investigation, Training and Resources centre of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI ) to register instances of copyright commandeering.In addition to
