tages
The three Stages that the process has been divided into so far are initial designing, prototype building, and testing and development.
The initial design stage took place between May 2002 and February of 2005. The first designs were pencil sketches, but later Dennis moved to using
CAD to more accurately design the dp1. The original design constraints were that it was to use a Hayabusa engine and gearbox, utilize an AWD drivetrain, it had to be smaller and lighter than aWestfield Megabusa (a car he previously owned), yet retain street driveability. The prototype building phase took place between February 2005 and September 2006. When Dennis first introduced this phase he stated that it would be for buildup, testing, and redesign of several components. He later broke off the testing portion into a third phase.
The testing and development stage started in September 2006, and is currently still in progress. This stage will not only include testing but also the redesign of the dp1 for production. Dennis has taken the dp1 to several tracks, the first being Pat's Acres a track designed for go-karts, the second being
Portland International Raceway designed for full sized car use.pecifications
