October 26 ,1831 –March 22 ,1912 ) was a U.S. lawyer and brevet general in the Civil War. He served as the Secretary of the Interior between 1889 and 1893.Noble was born in
Lancaster, Ohio and attendedMiami University . In 1851, he graduated fromYale University with honors. After service in the Civil War, he becameU.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri . He served as Secretay of the Interior throughout the entire Benjamin Harrison administration. He later practiced law in St. Louis and died there in 1912.
