Alta-Talvik

Alta-Talvik is a former municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. [ [http://www.snl.no/search.html?mode=place&topic=983 Store Norske Leksikon] no icon]

It was created in 1837 as Alten-Talvig formannskapsdistrikt. According to the 1835 census the municipality had a population of 3,085. In 1863 Alta-Talvik was split to create two municipalities: Alta with a population of 2,442 and Talvik with a population of 1,938. On 1 January 1964 Talvik was reunited with Alta, but this time under the name Alta.
