Humbo

Humbo is one of the 77 woredas in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Semien Omo Zone located in the Great Rift Valley, Humbo is bordered on the south by Lake Abaya which separates it from the Oromia Region, on the southwest by Boreda Abaya, on the west by Offa, on the north by Sodo Zuria, on the northeast by Damot Weyde, and on the east by the Bilate River which separates it from the Sidama Zone. The major town in Humbo is Tebela.

This woreda covers part of the homeland of the Welayta people.

Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 137,252, of whom 68,639 were males and 68,613 were females; 5,009 or 3.65% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 8.5%. With an estimated area of 846.57 square kilometers, Humbo has an estimated population density of 162.1 people per square kilometer, which is greater than the Zone average of 156.5. Humbo was selected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2003 as an area for voluntary resettlement for farmers from overpopulated areas, becoming the new home for 658 heads of households.
