Humbo is one of the 77
woreda s in theSouthern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples' Region ofEthiopia . Part of theSemien Omo Zone located in theGreat Rift Valley , Humbo is bordered on the south byLake Abaya which separates it from theOromia Region , on the southwest byBoreda Abaya , on the west by Offa, on the north bySodo Zuria , on the northeast byDamot Weyde , and on the east by theBilate River which separates it from theSidama Zone . The major town in Humbo isTebela .This woreda covers part of the homeland of the
Welayta people .Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 137,252, of whom 68,639 were males and 68,613 were females; 5,009 or 3.65% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 8.5%. With an estimated area of 846.57 square kilometers, Humbo has an estimated population density of 162.1 people per square kilometer, which is greater than the Zone average of 156.5. Humbo was selected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2003 as an area for voluntary resettlement for farmers from overpopulated areas, becoming the new home for 658 heads of households.
