1945 Major League Baseball All-Star Game

1945 Major League Baseball All-Star Game

The 1945 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was to have been the 13th annual playing of the midseason exhibition baseball game between the all-stars of the American League and National League, the two leagues comprising Major League Baseball. The game was cancelled due to wartime travel restrictions due to United States involvement in World War II, thus marking the only time to date that an all-star game was cancelled. The game was scheduled to be held on July 10, 1945 at Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox of the American League. As compensation for losing the game, the stadium was awarded the 1946 game.

Unofficial Rosters

Although there was no formal balloting conducted by Major League Baseball, the Associated Press named their own All-Stars after taking a poll of 13 of the 16 major league managers. The only managers who did not participate were Joe McCarthy of the New York Yankees, Luke Sewell of the St. Louis Browns, and Billy Southworth of the St. Louis Cardinals; the latter two were to have managed the AL and NL, respectively, for the game.

American League

*Note: Those selected to the non-official All-Star rosters by the "AP" who had not been an All-Star before and were never selected again were:
**AL: Christopher, Etten, Grimes, Gromek, Mayo and Tresh.
**NL: Barrett, O'Dea, Rosen and Wyse.
