Lazareto (
ALUPEC orALUPEK : "Lazaretu", São Vicente: "Lazaret' "), is a village located west-southwest of the island capital ofMindelo in the island of Sao Vicente,Cape Verde . Lazareto contains around 1,000 to 2,000 people and is growing. The settlement is linked with the road linking east toMindelo , the eastern half of the island as well as to the island's airport and to São Pedro.Nearest Places

The area around Lazareto contains farmlands as well as forests and some grasslands to the east in the valley area. Barren land covers the area to the south and the west as well as Monte Cara the rock and boulder colors are dark brown and sandy soil covers within the coastline and extends up to as 25 to 30 m in elevation. The
Bay of Mindelo is to the north. The residential area covers the area around Lazareto. Much of the houses were built in the late-20th century. The living standards are in the middle range as well as its income, one time, there were no money until the mid-20th century. The village is near the island's middle class. A part of the population are farmers and are based in agriculture where banana plantations, pineapple and other crops are common, the rest works in shops, ports and other businesses. Electricity as well as communications, other necessities and phone lines arrived between the mid to late 20th century.Information
Lazareto offers a view of the eastern and the central portions of the island of Santo Antão as well as the urban area of Mindelo and its harbour, even its surrounding mountains and the small island off the coast of Mindelo. Parts of Monte Cara and the western portion can be seen but the entire valley can be viewed. A part of the central, the eastern and the southern portions of the island can be seen as well as Monte Verde.
