Joseph "Joe" O'Cearuill (pronounced O'Carroll, born February 9 1987 in Edmonton, London) is a Republic of Ireland football player. He plays as a centre half or right back for St Patrick's Athletic.

Football career

O'Cearuill started his career at Leyton Orient, playing 27 youth team games in 2004-05 [cite web | url=http://www.leytonorient.premiumtv.co.uk/page/YouthTeamDetail/0,,10439~479436,00.html | title=Archives - Youth Team Record 2004/05 | work=Leyton Orient Official Website ] before being released in August 2005. He was promptly signed by Arsenal after a successful trial, having impressed Arsenal's reserve team coach Neil Banfield in their game against Watford. He played in Dennis Bergkamp's testimonial against Ajax Amsterdam in July 2006, and was on the bench for Arsenal's Carling Cup match against West Bromwich Albion on October 24 2006, although he did not play. On 4 January 2007, O'Cearuill joined League One side Brighton on loan, initially for one month. He made his debut at right back in Brighton's FA Cup Third Round match away to West Ham United on January 6, which Brighton lost 3-0.

Although born in England, O'Cearuill has elected to represent the Republic of Ireland at international level. O'Cearuill was called up the Republic of Ireland senior squad for the first time in May 2007 for an end of season tour to the United States [cite web |url=http://www.fai.ie/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2011 | title=Staunton Announces Squad for USA Friendlies | work=FAI.ie] , without having played for the Republic of Ireland under-21 national football team. He made his debut after coming on as a sub against Ecuador. He moved to Barnet in August 2007. Since joining Barnet, he did not play for the Republic of Ireland national football team but was called up by Don Givens to the Republic of Ireland under-21 national football team, making his debut in an away game against Montenegro. In January 2008 O'Cearuill joined St Patrick's Athletic.
