He was promptly signed by Arsenal after a successful trial, having impressed Arsenal's reserve team coach

Dennis Bergkamp 's testimonial againstAjax Amsterdam in July 2006, and was on the bench for Arsenal's Carling Cup match against West Bromwich Albion onOctober 24 2006 , although he did not play. On4 January 2007 , O'Cearuill joined League One side Brighton on loan, initially for one month. He made his debut at right back in Brighton'sFA Cup Third Round match away to West Ham United onJanuary 6 , which Brighton lost 3-0.Although born in England, O'Cearuill has elected to represent the Republic of Ireland at international level. O'Cearuill was called up the Republic of Ireland senior squad for the first time in May 2007 for an end of season tour to the

In January 2008 O'Cearuill joined St Patrick's Athletic.
