Maa Destmal Aawordaim

Maa Destmal Aawordaim

Maa Destmal Aawordaim (Persian:ما دستمال آورديم) was a hit single from the Gohar Album (released in 1996) by the late Nasrat Parsa. It was this song that shot the singer to fame and brought him critical acclaim.

Although initially well received, the song was later criticized for its lyrics that many viewed as disparaging to the bride. It went "...the wedding bouquet we've brought, on our shoulder our acquisition we've brought...with much difficulty, our brother's bride we've brought." Some individuals, suggested a single word change to the initial doublet to remove impression of a burdensome bride. So therefore, the new rendition was re-written as "...the wedding bouquet we've brought, on our shoulder our acquisition we've brought...with much affection, our brother's bride we've brought."

Nasrat's song has now made its place in Afghan weddings and is always sung soon after Ahesta Boro. This song follows this welcoming and initiates the dancing, which is usually by the groom's family.
