Matariki Research Observatory

Matariki Research Observatory

Matariki Research Observatory is the home observatory for the Phoenix Astronomical Society (PAS), Wairarapa, New Zealand. It incorporates the Nankivell Observatory.

The primary instrument is a 0.6m Cassegrain optical telescope, designed, constructed and funded by donations from PAS members.

The Nankivell Observatory houses an 8" Schmidt Camera with a 6" guide refractor built by the late Gary Nankivell.
