The title refers to the 1984 film, "Revenge of the Nerds ", and the documentary itself is based on Cringely's book "Accidental Empires ". The film chronicles the rise of the
personal computer /home computer beginning in the1970 s with theAltair 8800 ,Apple I andApple II andVisiCalc . It continues through theIBM PC andApple Macintosh revolution through the1980 s and the mid1990 s at the beginning of theDot-com boom . It includes interviews withApple Computer 'sSteve Jobs andMicrosoft 'sBill Gates .Video Release
Many have complained that the current video release (put out by Ambrose Video) of the documentary has had fifteen to twenty minutes of significant footage removed. Older, unedited VHS copies of the documentary are highly prized, but very hard to find.
