Elthorne Park High School

Elthorne Park High School

Elthorne Park High School (sometimes abbreviated to 'EPHS') is a secondary school located just off Boston Road (the A3002) in Hanwell, a town in the London Borough of Ealing. It provides education for pupils aged from 11 (year 7), until 16 (year 11) when the GCSE examinations are sat. The school re-opened in 1999 after being closed for some time and was inspected by OFSTED for the first time in 2004.

The school features a campus style layout which comprises five main buildings linked together. The five main blocks are:

  • "A block" - containing D.T. and I.C.T. classrooms
  • "B block" - containing Science, Geography and History classrooms
  • "C block" - containing Maths and I.C.T. classrooms, and the Learning Resource Center
  • "D block" - containing English and MFL classrooms
  • "N block" - the newest building, containing Music and Drama classrooms and the reception.
There is also a sports hall located on school grounds, which is shared with the Elthorne Sports Centre.

There was a previous school on this site, Elthorne High School. Formed in 1974 by the amalgamation of Walpole Grammar and Bordeston Secondary Modern and Northfields Girls schools, Elthorne was a successful school. However, it fell foul of the falling role in the borough and was closed in 1986. Parents and students had fought a valiant campaign to save the school, which made the national press and media. You can see more of this at the Save Elthorne website below.

Developments

The school was successful in 2007 in winning the right to open its own Sixth Form, which will open in September 2009. The school is currently seeking authorisation to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and a variety of vocational courses.
