Kooragang Island is located in the Hunter River of New South Wales, Australia and is the site of a deep water port for the export of coal. About 80MT of coal is exported every year, which makes this port one of the busiest in the world. This quantity will be increased when infrastructure improvements such as the Sandgate Flyover are completed.

The port first opened in about 1984.

Other industry

There are some industries located there making fertiliser and cement.
