Virginia's second congressional district is a U.S. congressional district in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It covers the portion of Virginia on the Delmarva Peninsula in Accomack and Northampton Counties, and the cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach. The current representative is Thelma Drake (R). She defeated competitor Phillip Kellam (D) who ran against her in the 2006 United States House elections. Virginia's second congressional district was considered a "swing" district in said election, though Drake ultimately defeated Kellam by a margin of 51.27% to Kellam's 48.46% to retain the seat. The Virginia 2nd congressional district election, 2008 is also expected to be one of the most competitive races in the state. It will pit Democrat Glenn Nye against Drake.
