catchphrases =Calamity Coyote is a
cartoon character from theWarner Bros. animated television series "Tiny Toon Adventures ". He is one of the supporting characters on the show. Calamity is voiced byFrank Welker . Calamity is a young, gray malecoyote with pink high tops. He attendsAcme Looniversity and lives inAcme Acres .Like his mentor and favorite teacher,
Wile E. Coyote , Calamity has a penchant for inventing traps and other devices. He resembles Wile E., though his red nose is similar toRalph Wolf (a character based off Wile E.).He never speaks, communicating instead with written signs, (though a voice credit is officially given to
Frank Welker mainly for the laughs and other noises he provides Calamity), except for two episodes when he's with Buster Bunny. In "A Bunny Operation", it is revealed that Calamity speaks with a South London accent. He also occasionally screams in a high pitched voice.In the episode segment from 'New Class Day', titled 'Just-Us League of Supertoons', Calamity was a member of the mighty superhero team, the Just-Us League of Supertoons. He was Keen Arrow, a parody of
Green Arrow .His quest is to catch
Little Beeper , a young roadrunner.In one episode,
Elmyra Duff offered Calamity her allowance to catchBuster Bunny for her, but he fared about as well capturing Buster as he did with Little Beeper.Another episode reveals that Calamity had been chasing Little Beeper since infancy; this episode featured Calamity's life story (told while Calamity is plummeting toward a street from the top of a tall
skyscraper ), narrated by Wile E. himself.Differences between Calamity and Wile E. Coyote
Unlike Wile E., however, Calamity seems genuinely competent and more technically proficient than the older coyote, even maneuvering himself out of his skyscraper plummet by switching Wile E. into his place. He is portrayed as quite intelligent and is often shown reading various science textbooks. Other Tiny Toon characters have acknowledged him as a "science whiz", and even seem willing to trust their lives and well-being to his skills. Perhaps it is primarily his young age and inexperience -- along with Acme merchandise -- that have been the undoing of his efforts. Interestingly enough, the gadgets that he creates generally work perfectly as long as they don't directly benefit him. When a device would help Calamity, it malfunctions. For example, when Calamity was a contestant on a parody of Jeopardy!, he knew the answer to every question, but his buzzer refused to work. Furthermore, unlike Wile E., Calamity does not have nearly the ego that his mentor does, and during a near death experience, is shown to be quite annoyed at his mentor for such behavior.
