Lagoon Secondary School, Lagos

Lagoon Secondary School is a private all girls secondary school located in the Lekki area of Lagos, Nigeria. It has about four hundred students and sixty members of staff.

The current motto of the school is "Sapientia et Virtus", which is Latin and means Wisdom and Virtue.

History

Lagoon Secondary School was founded in October 1995. It was established as an all girls Secondary School in Surulere by NAWA (an NGO). The school admitted students into JSS 1 and Noemi B. Garcia was the founding principal.

Academics

The school is divided into the Junior School (JSS 1 - 3) and the Senior School (SS 1 - 3). At the Junior level, Students are required to take anywhere between twelve and sixteen subjects including but not limited to Mathematics, English Language, Integrated Science, Social Studies, Introductory Technology, Agricultural Science, Physical and Health Education, Fine Arts, Music, Business Studies, Home Economics, Yoruba, French, Latin, Computer and Christian Religious Knowledge.

At the Senior level, students take anywhere between eight and ten subjects including but not limited to Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Further Mathematics, Geography, Home Management, French, Foods and Nutrition, Agricultural Science, Literature in English, Economics, Christian Religious Knowledge, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing, Financial Accounting, Igbo, Yoruba.

The Lagoon Secondary School is very well known for its academic excellence.

Sports

The school has students divided into four distinct houses. The houses are Jade (Green), Amber (Yellow), Ruby (Red) and Opal (Blue). The four houses compete against one another in a yearly inter house sports competition including such sports as basketball, swimming, races, javelin, discus, shotput, long jump and high jump and matching.

Uniform

Students wear green and red uniform. The junior students wear skirts and blouses with white socks and black low-heeled shoes while the seniors wear skirts, shirts and ties, with white socks and black low-heeled shoes. Students wear red or green sweaters at any time.

Alumnae

Alumnae of the school are in prestigious Colleges and Universities at home and abroad. Many have graduated from such institutions with honours.

The main goal of the lagoon secondary school is to create an awareness of a new generation of young confident and more intelligent women. they are currently undergoing some major developments including the building of a new multipurpose building, chapel and a swimming pool.
