- Wakeboard boat
Wakeboard Boats have a device that creates a large wake for a skier (Wakeboarder) to jump the
wakes from side to side doing aerial tricks.Boat types
Generally speaking, wakeboard specific boats are vDrive
boat s. This means they are an inboard boat with the engine placed backwards in the rear of the boat. Some wakeboard specific boat models are direct drive boats where the engine is in the middle of the boat. Most wakeboard boats will have several features that help to create large wakes. These include Ballast, Wedge, and hull technology.Ballast
Most new wakeboarding boats come standard with some sort of automatic ballast. Generally, these ballast tanks are located inside of the hull of the boat and can be filled and emptied by switches located in the drivers area. The ballast weights the boat down, creating a larger wake when in motion.
Wedge
The Wedge is a device that helps shape the wake. It is a metal structure located behind the propeller that helps the driver fine tune the wake for the athlete. (patented by Malibu Boats).
Hull technology
Hull technology is the innovation and
R&D that the manufacturers put into their boats to ensure the best stock wake possible. Many boarders use after market ballast and lead to further weight down their boats for very large wakes or for sports such as wake surfing.Popular Brands
Wakeboard boats evolved from ski boats. Because of this, companies who have been known to make world class ski boats are also leading the way in wakeboard boats. Two companies that are best known are Mastercraft and Correct Craft. Correct Craft markets their wakeboard boats under the name Air Nautique and Super Air Nautique. Mastercraft's wakeboard boats are marketed as the X series. Other companies building wakeboard boats include Malibu, Moomba, Tige`, Supra, Centurion, Ski Supreme and Epic Wakeboats.
