George Estrada

George Estrada Jr. is a writer from the Philippines.

Early life

George Estrada Jr. was born in Manila and came to America in 1956 with his mother, Milagros Estrada. He grew up in Oakland, California.

Education

Estrada attended the University of California, Berkeley, Ohio State University and the University of Texas at Austin. Estrada received a Ph.D. in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin in 1997.

Career

Estrada was a reporter and columnist with the Oakland Tribune from 1976 to 1992, and a correspondent with the Associated Press in 2005. He is the author of "I Have Tasted the Sweet Mangoes of Cebu".

Estrada is a full professor on the journalism faculty at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. He also writes a weekly column on the "Filipino American experience" for the "Philippine Times of Las Vegas" and the "California Examiner."

A new book by George Estrada, "As Flip As I Want to Be: Ruminations on the Filipino American Experience," was released in March 2007.
