Buzzie, Power Pop, Austin Texas Music

John McElhenney is the guitarist/singer/songwriter behind Buzzie, a rock/pop band with an emphasis on the rock side of things. After three years as the vocalist and contributing songwriter for Blue Cartoon, Are You Feeling Anything Yet? is John's second solo album. The band members that make up the rest of Buzzie are Cotton Mather (band)'s Dana Myzer (drums) and Cotton Mather's Whit Williams (lead guitar) along with a host of guest players including Michael Ramos, Ron Flynt, John Bergquist, Scrappy Jud Newcomb and Mark Hallman.

Engineered and produced by Austin's own Mark Hallman, Buzzie's second release "Are You Feeling Anything Yet?" strikes into alt/pop/rock territory with sharp-edged guitar licks wrapped around warm vocals and timeless lyrics. Last years' "She's Gone" included on the early promo disc was distributed as part of the International Pop Overthrow CD released by DelFi Records and showcases both John's writing and vocals.

John is reportedly back in the studio with some of the usual suspects working on the follow-up release initially titled "Fire Burns." There are no reports if Ron Flynt or Mark Hallman will repeat as producer and engineer. And another note involves a side project of Blue Cartoon leader, Lee Elliott, potentially involving John on some vocals. John left Blue Cartoon under good terms and has been supportive of all post-JMac BC releases.

Buzzie may reappear at the International Pop Overthrow in 2009 in support of the new project.
