Hasan di Tiro

Muhammad Hassan di Tiro (born 25 September 1925) is the founder of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), an organisation which has been seeking the independence of Aceh from Indonesia since its founding in December 4 1976. He is also the grandson of Tengku Cik di Tiro, a Indonesian national hero who was killed fighting the Dutch in 1891.

After leading an attack that killed two American engineers in 1977, di Tiro was hunted down by Indonesian soldiers. He was shot in the leg, and fled to Malaysia. [ [http://www.library.ohiou.edu/indopubs/1990/12/19/0012.html www.library.ohiou.edu - Hasan di Tiro: Acehnese Terrorist] ]

Since 1980 he has lived in Stockholm, Sweden, and has Swedish citizenship.
