television series that airs at 10:00pm nightly (and in reruns at various other times) on thecable television networkHome & Garden Television , aka HGTV. House Hunters remains the highest rated show on HGTV.Hosted by
Suzanne Whang , the program follows individuals, couples, or families searching for a new home with the assistance of arealtor . Each broadcast features three properties, one of which is selected by the prospective buyer, whose offer generally is accepted by the seller. In the final moments of the show, the new owner provides a tour of the house, revealing what changes and/or improvements were made after moving in.Participants of the show are given $500 as an incentive to be filmed for the show. Moreover, producers often recruit buyers who are already in escrow with the house of their choice. The other two homes that are filmed are shown to fulfill the selection process but are often homes that the Buyers may have never seen.
In early seasons of the series, prices and locations were never mentioned. The viewing audience is now privy to where each property is located along with the amount being asked for each property.
In the earlier episodes, the last part of the show featured the buyer waiting to see if they got the house they decided on. Now, each episode ends with which of the three houses they chose and their lives after moving in. Usually, the show goes back months later to tape the segment. Sometimes, the show goes back a year later to check on the homeowners. On rare occasions, the buyer does not get the house they wanted and have to choose another option.
A recently-added international version of the show, also hosted by Whang, has concentrated on properties in
