The PiperJet was announced in October 2006, as a competitor to the twin-engined
Eclipse 500 andCessna Citation Mustang . The aircraft will be capable of carrying up to 7 passengers and cruise at convert|360|kn|km/h|1, at a maximum altitude of convert|35000|ft|m|1. Maximum range is expected to be convert|1300|nmi|km|1, with a full-fuel payload of 800 pounds. Piper has selected Williams International to supply their FJ44-3APturbofan engine for the PiperJet. February 19 ,2007 , Piper announced that they have received 180 pre-orders for its PiperJet. ["Business Aviation",February 19 ,2007 ]Due to the engine's being mounted above the center of gravity, power will be "highly stabilizing" (addition of power will push the nose down), which could be disconcerting to pilots. Piper designers have addressed this possibility by incorporating an automatic pitch trim system which coordinates horizontal stabilizer angle of incidence with power setting. The system is called "Piper Automatic Trim System (PATS)", and it incorporates multiple channels. [
