Aladdin Paperbacks

Aladdin Paperbacks is an one of [http://www.simonsays.com/content/feature.cfm?sid=33&feature_id=5784 several] Children's imprints, published by Simon & Schuster.

Remit

This paperback imprint is aimed at readers aged 4 to 12 years old, and is primarily a "reprint list" from other (hardcover) imprints, which include what Simon & Schuster term "some of the most enduring children's books of the modern era." Its ranges include the "Ready-to-Read books," and the slightly older "Ready-for-Chapters" titles aimed at younger age-groups and beginners. Aladdin also publishes a "limited number" of original titles and series entries, across multiple genres including action, adventure, and relationships novels. Executives

The imprint was founded by Jean E. Karl c.1967 [There are, however, a small handful of books which were allegedly published by "Aladdin Paperbacks" as far back as 1958 (e.g. "Annie Oakley" by Ellen Wilson), but the first children's book seem to have been published in 1967, with Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings' "The Yearling", suggesting that earlier "Aladdin" titles were from a separate company/imprint.] , who also "established the publishing imprint Atheneum Books for Young Readers in 1961" for Alfred Knopf Jr.; it was acquired by Simon & Schuster in 1978. Karl ran Atheneum until her retirement in 1985 [ [http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B01E2D71E3CF930A35757C0A9669C8B63&sec=&spon= New York Times obituary: "Jean Karl, 72; A Publisher Of Books For Children" by Eden Ross Lipson, April 3, 2000] . Accessed April 3, 2008] In October, 2002, Eloise Flood was appointed to the newly-created position of "Vice President and Publisher" of Simon & Schuster's Children's Publishing Paperback Group, the role encompassing both the Aladdin Paperbacks and Simon Pulse imprints.
