Notable_instruments =Stoney & Meatloaf is the little known duet team of singer
Meat Loaf , with their only album released in 1971, by the team's same name. It featured female vocalist Stoney (Shaun Murphy). Meat Loaf and Murphy met while performing with theDetroit cast of "Hair". Meat Loaf's name was "Meatloaf" during the recording and had a semi-hit "What You See Is What You Get". Stoney had a solo single which wasn't successful, for the record company planned to ditch Meat Loaf in the near future. Meat was furious when he heard this and settled after they recorded "Who Is the Leader of the People?", which, as Meat Loaf states, a very good song.Fact|date=October 2007They broke up and went their separate ways when the record company cut their vocals to "Who Is the Leader of the People?" and replaced them with
Edwin Starr 's vocals instead. This was the last straw. Soon Meat Loaf would spawn unforgettable albums and Stoney would join the bandLittle Feat . Meat Loaf sang "What You See Is What You Get" live on his "Live Around the World " album in1996 ."Who is the Leader of the People?", and other songs that were initially unreleased, were released on a re-release album, cutting out all of Stoney's vocals in the unreleased songs. It was released shortly after Meat Loaf's new album, but was much less successful. Their recordings were never released on
CD . Only "(I'd Love to Be) As Heavy as Jesus" was released on a Gospel CD compilation, "Key to the Kingdom ".Discography
