Hockey at the Pan American Games

Argentina and Canada have dominated the men's field hockey tournament at the Pan American Games since its inception in 1967. In the sport of field hockey, the Pan American Games also serve as a qualifying event for the Summer Olympics in the following year, with the winner earning an automatic berth.

Women's field hockey was inducted for the first time into the Pan Am Games at the 1987 edition. Here to Argentina proved to be the dominating force. Since 1999 it served as a qualification tournament for the women too.
