Silverdale, Coonoor

Silverdale was originally the name given to a large colonial bungalow in Coonoor in The Nilgiris District of Tamilnadu, India. The exact origins of the house are unclear but it was thought to have been built as the summer retreat of a wealthy British businessman in circa. 1880. The house included a large garden with lawn and a fruit orchard. It is known that it was later purchased or inherited by Lady Daisy Ogle, and thought to have run as a hospital and recuperation facility for wounded soldiers during the second world war.

The bungalow and surrounding buildings along with around convert|6|acre|m2 of land were taken over by Hebron School and became the Girls School and Junior School. The bungalow itself became one of the boarding houses known as "Silverdale Dormitory". The campus was extensively modified with several building and facilities added including 2 tennis courts, 2 swimming pools and 2 playing fields.

In 1977, it was purchased by Christian Mission Service to become a children's home for orphan children and the headquarters of their Indian operations.

The existing bungalow was extensively modified in approximately 1994, and is now largely unrecognisable as the former grand bungalow it once was. The whole campus is now known as "Silverdale" campus or also "Old Hebron School".
