Andy Cottam

Andy Cottam

Andy Cottam (born July 14, 1973) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a left-arm slow bowler.

Cottam played for Somerset and Derbyshire during a four-year first-class career. He also played for Devon, as well as picking up two youth Test call-ups in 1992. Though his career in youth Tests was limited, he played around the block somewhat, first as a number five, and in his second as a tailender. In between his two appearances in youth Tests, he appeared in an Under-19s tour of Pakistan, as well as forming the backbone of Somerset's tailend in Second XI Championship matches.

Cottam's first-class debut came in the 1992 County Championship, for Somerset, but he was most renowned for his career at Derbyshire, where he was brought in to attempt to address the spin-bowling problem that the team had from around 1995. However, issues including a lack of penetration in his spin bowling were never fully addressed, and his county career was more-or-less over before he had time to tend to his problems. Prior to him quitting the game for good, he appeared three more times for his first team, Somerset, in 1997.
