Rome in 1984 by the new graduated in dentistry inItaly . The degree inDentistry was established in 1980 and the first students had the need to create an association to represent them calledAISO ("Italian Dental Student Association") for the great organizative and cultural identity problems that the new students in Dentistry have to face in the starting of their degree. After the degree, problems were not ended because the new Dentists have to realize obstacles really difficult, because the situation was the following:
The new graduates cannot work because the law establishing the new profession of Odontoiatra and was missed. They didn't know if they can exercise the profession as specialist of a part of the
Medicine or as a paramedic under the graduated in Medicine. The Italian Professional Order of the Medicians did not want that the graduates in Dentistry subscrided in it.The new graduates were not recognized from the National Health Service.Did not exist the specialization schools post lauream to the new graduates in Dentistry. The new graduates could work but without any insurance and pension cover. The new graduates from 1984 to 1986 was not accepted in the Association of Italian Dental Medician (AMDI, now recalled ANDI) because they were not graduated in Medicine. For all these reasons and for many others i.e. the necessity to create in Italy a Dental Identity with a superior quality based from an exclusive exercise of the dental specialization, the first graduates in Dentisty created the Italian Dental Association ("Associazione Italiana Odontoiatri"), AIO, www.aio.it
