Kvernes is a former municipality in
Møre og Romsdal county, Norway.It was created in 1837 as Kvernes
formannskapsdistrikt . According to the 1835 census the municipality once had a population of 3,754.On
1 September 1893 parts of Kvernes,Frei and Øre were used to create the new municipality Gjemnes. On1 January 1897 Kvernes was split in four to create three new municipalitiesEide ,Kornstad andBremsnes . The remaining part of Kvernes had a population of 857.On
1 January 1965 Kvernes was merged with most of Kornstad and Bremsnes to create the new municipalityAverøy . Prior to the merger Kvernes had a population of 693.References
