Høyland

Høyland is a former municipality in Rogaland county, Norway.

The parish of "Høiland" was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). According to the 1835 census the municipality had a population of 2,286. On 6 April 1861 the city Sandnes was separated from Høyland to contstitute a municipality of its own. The split left Høyland with 3,376 inhabitants. In 1912 a part of Høyland with 41 inhabitants was moved to Hetland, and in 1957 a part of Høyland with 18 inhabitants was moved to Sandnes.

On 1 January 1965 the rest of Høyland was incorporated into Sandnes along with parts of Hetland and Høle. Prior to the merger Høyland had a population of 20,353.
