Sayint (also transliterated Sahint) is one of the 105
woreda s in theAmhara Region ofEthiopia . It is named after the historic district of Sayint. Part of theDebub Wollo Zone , Sayint is bordered on the south by Debre Sina, on the west by theAbay River which separates it from theMisraq Gojjam Zone , on the northwest by theBashilo River which separates it from theDebub Gondar Zone , on the north by Magdala, on the east by Tenta and on the southeast byLegambo . The major town in Sayint isSayint Ajebar .The altitude of this woreda ranges from 500 meters above sea level in the canyon of the Abay to 3700 meters; the highest point is
Mount Amba Ferit , which lies on the border with Legambo.Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 261,552, of whom 132,578 were males and 128,974 were females; 3,572 or 1.37% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 12.4%. With an estimated area of 2,086.25 square kilometers, Sayint has an estimated population density of 125.4 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 173.56.
