- Sigismund Bachrich
Sigismund Bachrich (
January 23 ,1841 –July 16 ,1913 ), aka Sigmund Bachrich, was a Hungariancomposer ,violinist , andviolist .He was born in Nyitrazsambokret in 1841. He studied violin at the Vienna Conservatoire from 1851 to 1857 with
Joseph Böhm .He was
Kapellmeister at theParis Théâtre Lyrique from 1866 to 1869, when he returned toVienna . He joined theVienna Philharmonic as violist, remaining until 1899. He became a professor at the Vienna Conservatory until 1894.He played the viola with the
Hellmesberger Quartet from 1869, while he joined theRosé Quartet in 1890.He died in
Austria , eitherGrimmenstein orVienna .He composed for the
opera , including "Muzzedin" (1883), "Heini von Steier" (1884), and "Der Fuchs-Major" (1889).His
memoirs were published posthumously, in 1914, under the title "Aus verklungenen Zeiten; Erinnerungen eines alten Musikers".References
