Wilson Greatbach

Wilson Greatbach received the United States patent for the implantable cardiac pacemaker in 1962. He discovered that it is possible to implant pacemakers when he found that a small device emitting a steady electrical pulse could be implanted to regulate heart rate. Later in life he created a corrosion-free lithium battery to power the implantable pacemaker.
