Tri-Valley High School (Ohio)

Tri-Valley High School (Ohio)

Tri-Valley High School, located in Dresden, Ohio, is the high school for the Tri-Valley Local School District, a public school district encompassing northwest and north central Muskingum County, Ohio.

History

The high school was created in 1966 through the merger of Jefferson High School (located in Dresden), Frazeysburg-Nashport High School (located in Frazeysburg, and formed a few years earlier through the merger of Frazeysburg High School and Nashport High School), and Adamsville High School. The name Tri-Valley was thus derived from these three towns, even though Adamsville is not located in a geographically significant valley.

The high school athletic teams are known as the Scotties, and the mascot is a Scottish terrier. The name, however, originates from the large numbers of persons of Scottish ancestry who were among the original White settlers in northern Muskingum County.

The high school building sits slightly above the flood plain of the Muskingum River on the eastern edge of Dresden. The building was constructed in 1969, and has had two recent renovations in the mid 1990s and mid 2000s. The first addition was made in 1991, and was dedicated the Norbert A. Kurtz Wing. The second addition was made in 2004, which featured a new stage and floor area, along with new classrooms. Some of the renovation work was supported by funds from the Longaberger Basket Company, which originated in Dresden. As a matter of fact, Rich Longaberger, brother of basket company founder Dave Longaberger, taught mathematics and coached boys basketball at the high school for many years.

Current Work

Between the period of 2006-2008, the high will be undergoing its third renovation, this time adding new administration areas as well as a second gymnasium. In addition, the current school will be renovated to replace the original 1960's materials
