Egma

EGMA (aka. Peynirlikönü) is the deepest cave of Turkey [http://www.balkan-speleo.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=11] . It is in the southern region of Anatolia, on Taşeli Plateau and is -1429 meters deep. EGMA stands for Evren Günay - Mehmet Ali Özel Sinkhole.

It was being explored by [http://www.bumak.boun.edu.tr/ BÜMAK (Boğaziçi University Speleological Society)] since 1993 when a flash flood caused Mehmet Ali Özel to lose his life inside the cave in 2001. In 2004, with the help of members of the [http://bfs.hit.bg/ Bulgarian Speleological Federation] , BÜMAK team recovered Mehmet Ali's body and also reached the deepest point of the cave.
