Hideki Shiohira

Hideki Shiohira (born 1948) is an aikido instructor in the San Francisco Bay Area, United States. He is a 7th dan shihan in the Aikikai, as well as holding a 6th dan from Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido, and is the founder and head instructor of the Pacific Aikido Federation, which comprises numerous aikido dojos in Northern California. Born and raised in Japan, Shiohira was dispatched to San Francisco in 1973 by Koichi Tohei to represent the nascent Ki Society. He is a graduate of Waseda University.

Throughout his career, Shiohira has received instruction from Morihei Ueshiba, founder of aikido, Kisshomaru Ueshiba, the founder's son and successor, Koichi Tohei, the founder's top student and later the founder of Ki Society, as well as Shizuo Imaizumi, Hiroshi Tada, and many other prominent aikidoka.

In addition to aikido training and instruction, he studied zen under Tenshin Tanouye Rotaishi and trained in misogi shugyo, a Shinto-based martial arts training practice, under Tesso Hino.

A firm believer in training and teaching Aikido as "The Way", which enables one to continually move towards living a fulfilled life, Shiohira is widely recognized as having made a significant contribution to aikido in the U.S. through the development of his students.
