Kathleen Bounds is the Chairwoman of the
Berkeley County School Board inSouth Carolina . Bounds is currently up for re-election to a third term representing District 6 (includesMoncks Corner , Pinopolis, Macedonia, and Bonneau). Bounds graduated with honors from theUniversity of Virginia . She is married to Dr. Charles W. Bounds and together they have two children: Katie, a teacher, and Tim, a senior at theUniversity of South Carolina .Educational Experience
Kathleen has been recognized across the state of South Carolina as a champion of education. She was recognized by the
South Carolina School Boards Association with the “Champion for Children ” Award in 2000. She has also been recognized for outstanding volunteering efforts byBerkeley Intermediate School ,Berkeley High School , and theBerkeley County School District .She has served as a member and officer in the following
Parent Teacher Organization s:Berkeley Elementary ,Berkeley Intermediate , andBerkeley Middle School . She served on theBerkeley County School District Strategic Planning Committee , has been a booster of the Berkeley High School Athletic Department for nearly 15 years, and was a charter member of the Berkeley High School Academic Booster Club, subsequently serving as President. She is also a charter member of theBerkeley County Education Foundation . She is currently an officer in theSouth Carolina School Boards Association .Community Involvement
Prior to her service on the School Board, she served on the
Moncks Corner Planning and Zoning Board . She has served as a volunteerguardian ad litem for 16 years and has served on the Foster Care Review Board since 1999 (currently serving as its Chair). She is also a past Board Member of the prestigiousCharleston County Community Foundation Serving Coastal , SC. From1999 -2001 , Bounds served as Chairman of theBerkeley County First Steps Partnership Board . She is active at her home parish,Trinity Episcopal Church inPinopolis , SC, and has served as the parish's Senior Warden.Tax Controversy
Bounds and the entire board were criticized by some members of the community for the tax increases on assessed property in
2005 . Bounds has repeatedly stood by the Board's budgetary process as open and honest and asserts that the revenues have gone toward building state of the art schools in every part of the county and for much needed teacher pay increases.External links
