website =Saint Vedast-alias-Foster, church in
Foster Lane , EC2,city of London , dedicated toVedast (Foster is anAnglicisation of his name [ [http://www.worldwideschool.org/library/books/lit/literarystudies/LiteraryBlunders/chap1.html A treatment of how this occurred.] ] ), a French saint whose cult came to England via contacts with Augustinian clergy. It was rebuilt bySir Christopher Wren in1670 -1673 after being destroyed in the Great Fire in1666 ["The Visitors Guide to the City of London Churches" Tucker,T: London, Friends of the City Churches, 2006 ISBN 0955394503] . In 1697 a belltower was added; and, in 1703, a spire [ "London:the City Churches” Pevsner,N/Bradley,S New Haven, Yale, 1998 ISBN 300096550] .Wren's church was gutted during
the Blitz ["The Old Churches of London" Cobb,G: London, Batsford, 1942] . The post-war restoration was undertaken byStephen Dykes Bower . He remained faithful to Wren's original conception by collecting fittings dispersed from other City churches. The church is now noted for its unusual steeple, adjoining small, secluded courtyard, and its stained glass.Notes
