Yariguies

Yariguies was an indigenous Colombian tribe that gave their name to a mountainous area they once inhabited in the Andean cloud forest. It has been said that they committed mass suicide instead of submitting to Spanish colonial rule. [cite web

The region also provided the name for a newly discovered multi-colored bird. The fist-sized yellow and black Yariguies Brush-finch, topped with an orange plume, was found by a Colombian-English Fundación ProAves team high atop the country's eastern Andean range in Santander province. [cite web
