This woreda is bordered on the south byAfdera and Abala, on the southwest by theTigray Region , on the west by Koneba, on the north by Dallol, and on the northeast byEritrea .The major body of water in this woreda is the
saline Lake Karum (also known as Lake Assela). Towns in Berahle includeBerahle andTiyarabora .Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 41,455, of whom 18,840 were males and 22,615 were females; at least 1,270 or 3.06% of its population are urban dwellers, which is greater than the Zone average of 2.7%.
