Sydney Model Railway Exhibition

Sydney Model Railway Exhibition

The Sydney Model Railway Exhibition is an annual railway modelling exhibition (held in October) sponsored by the Australian Model Railway Association. It started in 1962 at Burwood in Sydney, and since that year's exhibition was a success, the show was continued annually: first at Burwood, and then at the lower Sydney Town Hall. It returned to its original home in 1984. The exhibition is open in the St. George area at Rockdale.

It includes the following gauges:
* G scale
* O scale
* On30 scale
* 00 scale
* HO Scale
* HOn3 1/2 scale
* HOn 2 1/2 scale
* N scale
* Z scale

The programme sponsors a vote of favourite layout, for which the winner receives a train set. They also conduct Thomas The Tank Engine rides for children from the train shed, as well as a U-Drive that allows a rider to drive Thomas the Tank Engine trains and real Australian trains.

The Australian Model Railway Association's meeting was once held at Liverpool Whitlam Leisure Centre as long as their golden jubilee in 2001, but in 2005, the Epping Boys' High School model railway club and the Association moved it to the Hurstville leisure centre for the 2005 and 2006 exhibitions. At the Hurstville leisure centre, the Association also sponsor three days of the exposition because of Labour Day weekend. This model railway show is one of the oldest and largest model railway exhibitions in Australia.
